Charles M. Schleutker, 86, passed away July 21, 2011, spending his last few weeks surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 3, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis and Hattie (Bieske) Schleutker. Charles graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan. He served his country in the Army during World War II with the 246th Combat Engineers, which was part of the Army Fourth Corps landing at the beaches in Normandy during D-Day operations, June 1944. He later enjoyed contacting fellow veterans and helping organize many of the activities of the 246th Group, traveling to reunions in Michigan, Reno, and Las Vegas during the 1990’s.

Charles retired from a senior executive position at the White Haines Optical Company in Indianapolis after nearly 40 years of service. Charles then began a new “career” as a BAMPA, enjoying all the activities that come with four growing grandchildren.

Charles leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Fay (Helm) Schleutker; a son, Jeff Schleutker and wife, Deborah, of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Nancy Schleutker, of Noblesville, IN; and four grandchildren: Kristi, Andy and Katie Webb, and J. Charles Schleutker. Charles was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Hattie Schleutker, and brother, Engelbert Schleutker.

A memorial service and celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Avon IN; date and time to be determined. Harry W. Moore Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements.
